The Shard is an obvious choice BUT there is a brilliant alternative: Sky Garden located in the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building, at 20 Fenchurch Street, under a gorgeous glass dome and surrounded by tropical plants. Children love going up and down the steps on both sides of the rooftop floor. After going up the 35-floor lift, it sure is a good physical exercise for the kids and yourself!
I found that the surrounding vegetation gives a feel of peaceful to the place, even in busy periods. Watch out for the water sprays!
I love the architecture of the place: it doesn’t feel enclosed; on the contrary, you feel you’re on top of the world. Thanks to the huge glass windows, I managed to capture some lovely reflections where the lines of the building meet the geometry of the city.
This is the only coloured photo in this series. I usually favour colour over black and white but this time, I wanted to try something different and the architecture and lines of the building gave me the right opportunity to do so. This photo HAD to remain in colour in my eyes: it’s all about the bright natural light in my son’s eyes and the gorgeous rainbow colours of his jumper. A subtle way to break my own rules.
