What influencer and mum Yasmine Camilla loved about her family photoshoot (video)

It’s one thing for me to talk about how I work on a family photo session but it’s another to have a parent sharing her experience about her own family photoshoot with me.
I had the pleasure to photograph Yasmine Camilla, influencer and mum, and her two children, Callum and Amber, in their home of South East London. She recorded a review video (below) talking about what she loved about her experience with me as well as the photos I created for her and her family.

Watch Yasmine and her children talking about their family photos:

Before the session, Yasmine told me that, although she regularly takes photos of herself and her children for her Instagram account, she didn’t have many natural photos of them together.

And that’s why a documentary photo session makes all the difference: it’s not about posing in front of the camera, it’s about capturing a little moment of your family life at a specific moment in time and being yourself with all your perfect imperfections.

Go with the flow

Regarding the photoshoot experience, Yasmine loved the fact we did have a chat ahead of the session about what her children enjoyed doing, their personality, the kind of activities they usually do at home on a weekend but, on the day, I really adapted to whatever the children felt like doing: a mix of fun moments such as balancing on their indoor swing, throwing slime at their mum, playing Chinese whispers or jumping on the trampoline and some quieter moments like cuddles with Mum, reading books and chatting about anything and everything.

Plenty of small heart-warming moments

When she discovered her photos, Yasmine was emotional because she realised many little moments I had photographed that she didn’t notice at the time. Sometimes these photos are powerful because they say so much about your children or your relationship with them that it makes your heart explode. If, like most people, family is the most important part of your life, capturing those brief, yet beautiful, moments of your family can be very moving.

Watching the photos several months after the photoshoot reminded the children how much has changed already: Callum and his long hair, the book Amber was reading at the early stage of her reading journey and many more. That’s definitely the power of photography to bring you back in an instant to those special memories as a family.
